Claudetta C. Johnson was born on December 17, 1940, in Summerlee, West Virginia, to Eddie and Jalaner (Trotter) Caldwell. She departed this life on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the blessed age of 85.
After relocating from West Virginia to Hamilton, Ohio, Claudetta attended Roosevelt Junior High School. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and carried her faith with her throughout her life. She was a former member of Israel Baptist Church and Berean Missionary Baptist Church. Most recently, she worshiped at Revelation Baptist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Claudetta’s warm and loving personality left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She never met a stranger and dedicated her life to caring for and supporting her family and friends.
Affectionately known as “Cloodie,” Claudetta was a natural leader with a strong and spirited personality. She could be a “firecracker” when the situation called for it, but her heart was always full of love. She often lived by her philosophical sayings, “Go hard or go home” and “Nothing given was earned.” Honest and straightforward, she never beat around the bush, yet she was always caring and compassionate, often putting the needs of others before her own.
Claudetta retired from Avon after many years of service. Earlier in life, she worked as an assistant teacher and cook. She was an exceptional cook who enjoyed bringing people together through food and fellowship. In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing bingo, visiting the casino, watching sports, and cheering for her favorite basketball team, the Xavier Musketeers. She also loved dancing, hosting gatherings, and spending quality time with family and friends.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Claudetta was fiercely protective of her children and deeply committed to her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Johnson; daughter, Teri Hughley-Young; grandson, Robert Curtis “C.J.” Goins Jr.; and granddaughter, Layla Rose Thomas.
Claudetta leaves to cherish her memory five children: Leonard T. Hughley, Sheila C. (David) McCloud, Carla Hughley, Jermaine D. (Mikeya) Hughley, and Randall M. Johnson; along with a host of devoted grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
