Christopher Evans, son of Annie Bell and Willie D. Evans Sr., was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. His journey began in the community of Madisonville, but the family roots touch all the way back down to the red soil in Alabama. So southern hospitality was true to his nature. With his smile and sense of humor, just like his father, he bestowed warmth and joyfulness into the life of anyone who knew him well. His personality was playful and inviting, he never met a stranger.
October 4, 2023, Christopher’s beautiful spirit ascended from this earthly life, and in heaven he is reunited with his father, sister, and brother (Rosie and Jimmie), and a host of other family members. Lovingly known as “Joe Cribb,” he was a loyal brother, a loving father, a generous grandpa, and a friend to many people.
With a deep love for the Lord, he accepted Christ into his life at an early age. His place of baptism and worship was at Greater Liberty Baptist Church in Madisonville.
Education played a meaningful role in Christopher’s life. He attended Madisonville Elementary School, Lyons Middle School, and graduated from Withrow High School in the Class of 1978. He honed his skills in the trade of masonry, cement setting and finishing. He was truly a master of his craft.
Christopher worked industriously throughout his life, with noteworthy employment at Kahn’s Meats, Velva Sheen, and Ray Prus Construction. At Ray Prus Construction, he continued to perfect his craft in cement setting and finishing. This commitment continued until his last days, a testament to his strong work ethic.
He was passionate about music concerts, BBQ’ing and cooking for loved ones, and playing games. He was an avid football fan, with steadfast enthusiasm for the Pittsburgh Stealers. He genuinely embodied the spirit of the team, displaying resilience, determination, and an unyielding willingness to face any challenge.
Fatherhood looked good on him. Being a dad was a position he took very seriously, nevertheless he was also their friend. All of his children were special to him, and each one captured his heart. He left a legacy of love for his son Joel Hudson (Liza) and his daughters, Datwanna Merritt (Paul), Christina Wynn (Rasheed), Elizabeth Robinson (Dane), Christal Wynn (Jerry), and Inara Hankerson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie D. Evans Sr., grandson, Dominick Joe Harris, and siblings Jimmie Evans and Rosie Ziegler. Christopher will be sadly missed by his loving mother Annie Beckham, and siblings; Willie Evans Jr., Darlene Birch (Greg), Linda Evans (Zeke), Marilyn Evans, Jenice Duncan (Danny), Wayne Evans, Diane Evans, and Donnice Chappell (William).
His cultivating spirit of love extends to a multitude; He leaves 21 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and bonus family and friends. Beyond his kids, he was also a father figure to so many other children. Even in death, his generosity has been demonstrated with body organ donation; he’s made an impact to the longevity of life for up to 100 people thanks to his commitment of selflessness.
