On February 28, 1937, Charley (Chirley) Milton, Jr. was born to Clara Mae and Chirley Milton, Sr. in Cashpoint, Louisiana. He grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana where he devoted his life to Christ at a young age and was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church.
Charley joined the Army at age 17 where he spent three years in Germany serving his country. He returned to Louisiana and graduated from Grambling University with a degree in Business Administration. It was at Grambling University that he met the love of his life, Mattie Jean Nash. While at Grambling, Charley pledged Kappa Alpha Psi where he remained an active member throughout his life. Mattie and Charley were married in Shreveport in November of 1959.
They moved from Shreveport, Louisiana to Toledo, Ohio in 1960 and later had one son, Carlton Milton. Always active in church, he joined and became an active member at Grace Presbyterian where he remained until 1973. The Milton family then moved to Southfield, Michigan where he joined and became an active member of West Minster Presbyterian Church until moving to Cincinnati, Ohio in June 1980 where he became a member of Quinn Chapel A.M.E. for the remainder of his life. Mattie and Charley lived a life for Christ and were always active in the church.
Charley is a retired executive, having spent 35 years with the Kroger Company where his career soared from Store Manager to Director of Risk Management. He also co-founded and served as Executive Vice President at PMC North America Ltd., where he helped develop global markets for exporting health and food products to Africa. For enjoyment, Charley was an avid golfer, a long-time member of a reading book club, and enjoyed his monthly dinner club outings where they dined and explored some of Cincinnati’s best restaurants.
Active in the community and dedicated to service, he has served on several boards and agencies where he was the recipient of several awards including: Cincinnati Union Bethel, The United Way, AARP, Kappa Alpha Psi, and Quinn Chapel AME where he gained Emeritus status.
