Carolyn Veda Fiscus (Costner) was born on December 11, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to George Costner and Ruth Maloney -Thomas. She lived a life rooted in love, family, and devotion to those she held dear.
Carolyn loved to care for people, so much so that she spent 38 years as a solicitous Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). When health issues interfered with her ability to serve in a nursing capacity, she went back to school and received her certification in medical billing and coding.
Carolyn was a melophile, she loved listening to music, and you could often tell what mood she was in by her music selection. She also highly cherished the holidays, especially Christmas, as she loved to see the excitement and reactions of her loved ones when she gave coveted or sentimental gifts.
Carolyn was the proud mother of two children, her daughter Rashida Ruth Willis, and her son James Corey Willis. Her legacy continues through her five beloved grandchildren—Imani, Daved Jr., Makiyah, Josh, Marleigh—and her cherished great-grandchild, Dallas, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
Carolyn had a close and loving bond with her siblings: George T. Costner (Diane), Alvin Costner (Kathy), and Joyce Allen, with whom she shared many memories and enduring family ties.
Carolyn was happily married to her life partner, of 17 years, James Wesley Fiscus. Together they shared a loving life, and she played a significant and nurturing role in raising his son, Kameron, whom she loved as her own. She also gained three bonus children, Wesley, Kelsie and Kianna and grandchildren Aerys, Huntleigh, Kinslie, and Ryan.
Carolyn had a special bond with her nieces and nephews; George Ryan, Aminah, Ronnell, Carolyn, Sherine, Rhonda, Sheran, Ruth, Dumas, Ashlee, Caliph, Stanley and Lanae. Along with a host of great nieces and nephews.
Carolyn also had the blessing of a best friend of 30 plus years, Zina Payne-Bonner.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Maloney-Thomas, stepfather, Tillemon Pleasant, father, George Costner, grandmother, Veda Maloney and brother George Thomas Costner who all assuredly met her at heavens gates.
Carolyn will be remembered for her strength, feisty, yet vibrant personality and her wisdom. Her love and influence will continue in the hearts of all who knew her.
