Carl Mitchell Moore affectionately known as Mitch was a caring, loving husband, father, papaw, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He left this world suddenly on the morning of August 4, 2023, at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by his wife Diane, son Kevin, brothers David and Arthur Moore, sisters Shirli Freeland and Carol Moore.
Mitch was born to the late Arthur Moore Jr. and Ola Mae Moore (nee Goolsby) on April 10, 1944, in Cincinnati, OH. He grew up in Wyoming and graduated from Wyoming High School in 1963. He also attended Fisk University for several years prior to joining the service. He was a proud Army Veteran and was discharged honorably. He was part of the first group of black employees hired in the late 60’s at Procter and Gamble at the Ivorydale plant. They were known as the “Civil Rights babies,” since their employment was a part of the movement to hire a more diverse workforce. He retired after 30 years due to health-related reasons.
Mitch met the love of his life, Diane Grant, on a blind date in 1968. Their love flourished and they were married on October 23, 1971. They each brought to their union a son from prior relationships, and they formed a strong family unit. In 1976 they welcomed their baby girl, Carla, into the fold. Mitch and Diane had 49 blessed years together before Diane was called home to be with the Lord in 2021.
Mitch had an unwavering love and relationship with God and as a youth attended Zion Missionary Baptist Church. As an adult he joined Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church (LHMBC) with his wife Diane. He sang in the male chorus for years at LHMBC. He remained an active member until health-related issues prevented him from attending regularly. Mitch battled heart failure for over 30 years and had an LVAD for going on 10 years. He defied odds time and time again, to the glory and mercy of the Father. His faith and perseverance carried him a mighty long way.
Mitch enjoyed life immensely and lived it to the fullest. He loved to spend time with family, friends, and listening to music. The Temptations and Luther Vandross were two of his favorite artists. He was joyful and loved to laugh and joke. He cherished having breakfast/lunch outings with his retiree crew from P&G. On any given day you could catch him watching college and pro football. He loved his Bengals -good, bad or indifferent. When he wasn’t watching sports, you can bet he was watching something in black and white, especially old cowboy flicks.
Mitch adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He spoiled them to no end and only wanted to ensure their happiness and well-being. He had a heart of gold and extended himself to so many people in their time of need.
Mitch is survived by his loving children; son Charles Moore; daughters Carla Moore and Kym Butler; Goddaughter: Micaiah “Merrie” Yhisrael; Nine grandchildren: Kevin II, Amber, Tyler, Dymond, Brandon, Jessica, Jasmine, Dominique, and Sydni. Four great grandchildren: Madisyn, Royal, Darryl jr. and Skylar. Best Friends Moe Morgan, Alton Collins, Norman & Sharon Phillips, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
