Betty Ann Duncan was born on October 29, 1949 in Forkland Alabama, to the union of Lizzie Mae Allen and Anderson Washington. Betty was the oldest of 13 children. Betty accepted Christ at an early age , attending Bethesda Holy Temple under the leadership of Bishop Raleigh Lee. Betty also attended Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, Power and faith Ministries and resigned at Miracle Deliverance Worship Center under Pastor Jeremiah Dugar, who she loved dearly.
Betty was a hard worker, she graduated from Taft High School in 1968. Betty worked at Good Samaritan Hospital for 5 years as a housekeeper, walking to and from work to English Woods where she lived to provide for her family. Betty also spent 25 years working in welding. Later in life Betty became a daycare provider/owner and enjoyed caring for children even in her final days.
Betty met Levi “Fayette” Duncan in 1966. In 1974 they started dating and were together 42 years before they tied the knot in May of 2016. Levi spoiled Betty. In his very own words Levi said ” Betty could get anything out of me.”
Betty was the backbone to her entire family, she would give her last to anyone who was in need. Even if she didn’t have it , she would find a way to get it. Because of her loving spirit and her willingness to be a provider, comforter and friend, Betty was known as “mama” to so many people. She was “mama” to her siblings, nieces, nephews and of course everyone in English Woods. Betty always kept it real, even if you didn’t want to hear it. She would always speak her mind, even if that meant calling you a “fool” right to your face.
Betty took pride in her grandchildren. The love she had for them was unconditional, and they knew that if nobody else had their back, grandma did. From getting their first apartments, houses, cars or even going off to college, she made sure they were good and never wanted for anything.
Betty was preceded in death by her fathers Anderson Washington and David Allen; her son Hollie Burrell; Brother Jaun Lee Allen; her sisters Mary Lucille Hall and Betty Dyer; her aunt Lucy Burrell; nephew Quentin Allen and Grandson Gelanni Norris.
