Barbara Elizabeth Locke Watkins was born on April
12, 1940 to the late Oneida Frances Watson Locke and
Robert Nelson Locke, Sr.
Barbara became a member of St. James A.M.E. Church
at an early age. She formed a union with her husband,
Deacon James D. Watkins, Sr. on October 16, 1970, and of
this union, they raised 5 children.
Barbara has been a native of Covington her entire life.
She attended Lincoln Grant High School and was a resident
of Covington Housing Authority for 71 years. She
worked for Covington Board of Education numerous
years before her retirement because of health issues. Her
most favorite passion was bingo and playing cards.
Barbara is leaving behind to cherish her memories: her
beloved husband, James Sr.; 1 daughter, Charmaine (Khalil)
Rahim; 4 sons, Edward (Charlene) LaBordeaux, Jr.,
Michael LaBordeaux, Herbert (Tamara) LaBordeaux and
James Watkins, Jr.; also 1 brother, Robert Locke, Jr. and 1
sister, Edith Bernice Kelly who preceded her in death; 10
granddaughters, eight grandsons, 43 great-grandchildren
and 11 great-great-grandchildren; 2 nieces and 4 nephews;
2 best friends, Ms. Irene Holley and Ms. Norma Mabrey;
along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close
friends.
