With deep love and profound sorrow, the family of Barbara Jean Ciers announces her passing. Barbara was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth, strength, and unwavering faith touched every life she encountered.
Born to Lucy Ciers and William Alfred Ciers, both of whom preceded her in death, Barbara grew up surrounded by a close-knit and spirited family. She received her early education at Washburn Elementary School, continued through Samuel Ach Junior High School, and proudly graduated from Hughes High School.
Barbara’s life was deeply rooted in faith. Over the years, she worshipped and served in several church homes, including St. John AME Zion Church, Tryed Stone Missionary Baptist Church, St. Peter and St. Paul United Church of Christ, and From the Heart Church Ministries of Cincinnati. Her devotion to God shaped her character. She was compassionate, patient, and steadfast.
Barbara’s greatest joy in life was her daughter, Stacie, whom she loved deeply and unconditionally. She delighted in her grandchildren, Mars Ciers, De’ja Hudson, and Amya Hudson, cherishing every moment spent with them. She was also blessed to share a special bond with her bonus daughter, Charlene Mashia, who held a meaningful place in her heart. She was also blessed to share a special bond with her fur baby Keke, who never left her side.
Barbara was one of six siblings, although many preceded her in death, her sister Willie Marie “Skip” Ciers, her brother William Alfred “Butch” Ciers Jr., and her brother Anthony Dwayne “Wayne” Ciers their memories remained close to her spirit. She is survived by her loving sisters Patricia Urso and Sandra Ciers-Sims, who will forever carry her memory forward.
Beyond her immediate family, Barbara touched the lives of many nieces and nephews, each of whom experienced her kindness and warmth in their own meaningful way. Whether offering advice, sharing stories of the family’s past, or simply being a listening ear, Barbara made every person feel seen, valued, and loved.
During this time of year, Barbara was known to give out Christmas gifts in the infamous red Johnny’s Toys store bag. Christmas was the time of the year she cherished the most as this was her time to spend with family and friends. Barbara’s life was one of resilience, faith, and love.
She will be remembered for the wisdom she shared, the compassion she offered, and the legacy of strength she leaves behind. The family celebrates her life and cherishes the beautiful memories she created with all who knew her. May her soul find eternal peace, and may those she loved find comfort in the knowledge that her spirit lives on in their hearts.
