Barbara Ann Hodge aged 82, passed away on January 18, 2025 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Born on March 26, 1942 to William and Geveva Cooper, Barbara dedicated all of her life loving and nurturing others. She never met a stranger. She embraced the essence of family and extended it beyond blood. She didn’t use the terms step or half when referring to family members. She loved and treated each and every sibling and child as if they were full blood. Growing up in Wyoming Ohio, her family was a pillar in the community. She represents the final member of this family who contributed so much to the area.
Barbara graduated from Wyoming High School and furthered her education at Kentucky State. She ran a home daycare where she extended love to the children as if they were her own. She later worked as a Nurse’s Aid at St. Franciscan Terrace where she made lifelong bonds and provided loving care.
At an early age she accepted Jesus as her lord and personal savior at Bethel A.M.E. Methodist church and extended his love to everyone that she came in contact with. Barbara’s love of God, life, family, friends and especially grandchildren carried her through all facets of life. She liked to fill leisure time watching soap operas, watching movies and stealing pictures on Facebook to show off all of her grand and great grand babies, family and friends.
Barbara is survived by her loving children Bruce Hodge, Dennis Hodge, Jennifer Moore, William Hodge, Allyson Wiggins (William), Stewart Hodge, Barbara Gray (Charles), Betty Shaw (Calvin), David Hodge (Michele), Kenneth Daughtery, Kevin Hodge, Rita Royles : Daughters through love Cynthia Batte, Vicki Brown, Cheryl Shipman and Carol Ewing: Special Niece Alyce “Baby Alyce” Davis and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Geneva Cooper; siblings James Lane, Mary Francis Lane, Alice Thurman (Melvin), William Cooper II, Dr. John R. Cooper, and Stewart Cooper; husband Marvin Hodge; children Marvin Hodge II, Steven Hodge and Thelma “Noonie” Hodge: partner Melvin Broadnax.
Barbara’s life was marked by her love of God and her unwavering dedication to her family and community. She opened her doors and heart to many in need. If you ever met her, you know that you were blessed. Though she will be missed dearly, her work here is done. She did beyond her best. She left a legacy of love.
