Barbara A. Brown was the eldest child from the union of the late James Bristol Brown, Sr., and the late Eva Lucille Creenlee Brown. She is preceded in death by her younger brother, James Bristol Brown, Jr. (Jimmy) and leaves to mourn one sister, Linda Appiah (Richard); her close friend, Jerry Givens, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Barbara accepted Christ at a very early age and was baptized. Barbara sang most of her life and was apart of many churches and chorales, including those at Gailelee Baptist Church and New Friendship Baptist Church.
In 1964, Barbara graduated from Hughes High School and attended Ohio State for a short time. Barbara enjoyed singing, working in the medical field, traveling and cruises. As a little girl Barbara was the only black child to perform on stage as part of a choir at the May Festival, an accomplishment her mother was very proud of. Even as a teenager Barbara continued her interest in performing and singing in a 3 member group with the late, Marilyn Brown and Marilyn Jones.
Given her love for travel, Barbara lived in California for over 20 years. She returned to care for her elderly parents until their deaths. Barbara continued to sing, work and care for her family while traveling until her untimely death.
