Alice Louise Newsome Evans was born on January 6, 1930, in Jackson, Mississippi, to the late Bessie and Joe Newsome. On Friday, May 30, 2014, God called her home.
Alice shared her heart and loving smile with those around her, especially her family. She was one of a kind — a seamstress, a quilter, a motivator and so much more. Alice was a member of the Over the Rhine Senior Center. She really loved helping others. She was inducted into the Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in 1995.
To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving hus- band, Stephen D. Evans, Sr.; two sons, Stephen D. Evans, Jr. and Charles A. Evans; three daughters, Verlinda A. Gay, Darlene Evans and Arnita Miller; 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great-grandchildren; one niece, Linda Shoulders; one nephew, Joe Newsome of Jackson, Mississippi; one great-nephew, Corlise Newsome of Jackson, Mississippi; and a host of relatives and friends.
