Zilber R. Plair III, affectionately known as ‘Z’ passed away on Christmas Day, 2021. Christmas Day had held a special memory for him since 1983 – for that cold and snowy day was the day he heard the gospel preached by Rev. James E. Milton. Responding to the invitation, he accepted Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior! This was the true turning point in his life.
Zilber was born in 1942 in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended St. Joseph School and St. Martin de Porres High School. He always held fond memories of these schools and had lifelong friends who also attended and graduated with him. He was an Army veteran, having proudly served in the U.S. Army 54th Signal Battalion, stationed in Fort Hood, Texas.
He met the love of his life, Frankie Ruth, in 1964. He was a young soldier who saw a pretty woman in a polka dot dress, and they were inseparable for 56 years. Frankie supported her husband in his many adventures and career changes from managing a restaurant and chain stores, to finally starting his own business in Real Estate Appraisal. He operated this family business for twenty-four years, and his legacy continues through Washington Appraisal Services.
After sixteen years of joyful and faithful service at Southern Baptist Church, where he was ordained deacon and later a Licensed Minister, Zilber and Frankie were planted in Mt. Olive Church (The Mount) in December of 1999. Their son and Pastor, Alfred B. Winters, Jr., wanted them to be sure they could truly accept him as their Pastor – one who perfects, provides for, and protects. They humbly and willingly came to serve. Zilber was in The Service of Love Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Choir, Cleaning Teams, Outreach Ministry, and Sunday School.
Zilber was preceded into glory by his mother, Eleanor (2007) and father, Zilber (2010), brother, Rodney Walker (1974), and an infant brother.
He leaves to continue the good fight of faith, his beloved wife: Frankie Ruth. Three sons: Broderick, Royce (Nor-Rita), Alfred (Denise). Three daughters: Roycelle (Reginald), Angelia, Pamela (Antone). Eight grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren. Four sisters: Carrie Zillita Jarrett, Zeleanor Hayes, Zillana Thomas, Geraldine Plair. A Brother: Robert Walker; and Step-mother: Gwendolyn Plair and
many, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
And, in remembering his transition to glory, we remember his favorite saying, “You got your ticket?”
