Eddie (Edie) Mae McCain (Strauss) was born August 21, 1953, in Cincinnati, Ohio to William and Lillian McCain. She departed peacefully on June 16, 2023, into the arms of the Lord.
Edie was the second oldest of five siblings. She graduated from Hughes High School and worked at UC Hospital as a unit clerk for 34 years before retiring.
Edie kept herself “booked and busy”! She was “living her life like it was golden”! She was very stylish and had a heart filled with gold. She enjoyed walking, reading, traveling, and ministering.
Edie was a God-fearing woman who gave her life to Christ at an early age. Many know her as the “prayer warrior” and the “lady who wore many hats”. She published an autobiography called “Out of the Fire”. She formed a business called the “Sisterhood Women in Christ and E traveling tours”. She graduated with her Doctorate of Theology degree. She became an ordained minister.
Edie was a Hughes Alumni, a certified belief therapist, drug counselor, and a chaplain at Christ Hospital. She volunteered at American Cancer Society, United Way, Tender Mercy, and Face with Children with Aids. She received awards for caregiver of the month, UC Hero, Martin Luther King Jr. Cincinnati Herald, and YMCA Black Achievers.
Edie loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was wed in Holy Matrimony on December 30, 1998, to Jerome (Jerry) Strauss, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Wanda Butler, and both her parents, Lillian and William McCain.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her son, Brian Hughley; daughter, Ashley Richardson (Brent); brothers, Frank Hawkins and Kenneth McCain Sr.; sister, Cynthia Davis; honorary son, Elmer Coady; stepchildren, Quincy and Christian Strauss; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
