Eddie (Edie) Mae McCain (Strauss) was born August 21, 1953, in Cincinnati, Ohio to William and Lillian McCain. She departed peacefully on June 16, 2023, into the arms of the Lord.
Edie was the second oldest of five siblings. She graduated from Hughes High School and worked at UC Hospital as a unit clerk for 34 years before retiring.
Edie kept herself “booked and busy”! She was “living her life like it was golden”! She was very stylish and had a heart filled with gold. She enjoyed walking, reading, traveling, and ministering.
Edie was a God-fearing woman who gave her life to Christ at an early age. Many know her as the “prayer warrior” and the “lady who wore many hats”. She published an autobiography called “Out of the Fire”. She formed a business called the “Sisterhood Women in Christ and E traveling tours”. She graduated with her Doctorate of Theology degree. She became an ordained minister.
Edie was a Hughes Alumni, a certified belief therapist, drug counselor, and a chaplain at Christ Hospital. She volunteered at American Cancer Society, United Way, Tender Mercy, and Face with Children with Aids. She received awards for caregiver of the month, UC Hero, Martin Luther King Jr. Cincinnati Herald, and YMCA Black Achievers.
Edie loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was wed in Holy Matrimony on December 30, 1998, to Jerome (Jerry) Strauss, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Wanda Butler, and both her parents, Lillian and William McCain.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her son, Brian Hughley; daughter, Ashley Richardson (Brent); brothers, Frank Hawkins and Kenneth McCain Sr.; sister, Cynthia Davis; honorary son, Elmer Coady; stepchildren, Quincy and Christian Strauss; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Our deepest sympathies, condolences and prayers go out to you for the loss of your mother and loved one. When we found out about the passing of Edie it was after her home going service and it was so hard to believe. We are still processing it. I met Edie at Holmes Hospital to put a deposit on our trip with her to the Holy Land Experience in Florida. I found out she knew one of my sisters who was an out patient at Holmes. They prayed together on occasions during her appointment visits. Later I went on her trip to New York and it went on my list of one of the top trips of my life. Edie was a great organizer and a lover of people. We had the best time!! The last time I saw Edie was at her Christmas party in December. We were in contact before and after that on face book. We have been to many of the same events because she invited me, I invited her or we simply showed up at the same place. We have had many conversations about our Ministries. She was so encouraging, a true prayer warrior, and a great mentor to me and I'm sure to others. I have heard her minister to others and she has heard me. I am so thankful to God that He allowed our paths to cross. I watched her home going service online and couldn't stop crying. Some tears were of joy because I knew she was in a better place and had prepared herself to go, by the beautiful life she lived. Her obedience to God over man was amazing! Please know that God will comfort you in a way that only He can do. We will surely miss her and everything we knew about her. Enjoy all the great memories you have of her. May God continue to bless and comfort you.
