Mary Elizabeth (Kelsey) Jones was born November 30, 1934 to the late Evelyn and George A. Kelsey in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mary was called home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2015. She gave her life to Christ at a very young age.
As a child, Mary performed modern dance. She loved to swim, read, model and cook. As she got older, she began to sew. She could see a dress in a store and go right home and design the same dress from her memory. She began sewing all of her own clothing, just one of her many passions.
In 1952, Mary graduated from Woodward High School and followed her passion for fashion and modeling, working as a sales clerk for Gidding & Jenny department store in downtown Cincinnati.
Soon after, she met and married Curtis Jones, and from their union were three boys: Curtis, Kenneth and Kevin. She started working at the post office, then left there to start her career at Cincinnati General Hospital (now University) where she worked in the Medical Records department for more than 27 years. While there, Mary gave birth to her one and only daughter, Dawn (Tutti) Jones. Mary was an active member of First New Shiloh Baptist Church where she was a secretary and seamstress. She retired from the hospital in 1995 and later started working for the IRS where she later retired in 2006. After her second retirement, Mary spent her time sewing, cooking and spending time with her family. Mary rejoined El-Bethel Baptist Church where she was a current member under the fellowship of Pastor Shawn McMullen.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn; father, George Sr.; brothers, George Jr. and Thomas; and her oldest son, Curtis.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Kenneth, Kevin and Dawn (Tutti) Jones; 14 grandchildren, Aaron (Briane), Tiffany, Brandy (Mike), Damon, Timeca, Ashley, Thaddaeus, Lil Aaron, Stephon, Brandon, Allena, Christian, Jossie and Donterrius; one daughter-in-law, Vicky Martin-Jones; her siblings, Robert, Juanita, Maurice, Donald (Carolyn) and Lynnette; 13 nieces and nephews, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and two very special friends, Carole Rodgers and June Manuel (Hobbs).
