Marvin Odell Gates was born to the late Beverly Gates and Marvin Dillard on October 7, 1986. At Marvin?s birth, the doctors found that Beverly had late stage cancer. By the Grace of God with the passing of Beverly, Marvin looked to his dear friend, Althea Reed Myles to raise his only son. Althea raised Little Marvin from the age of 3 months until he departed this life on May 14, 2012.
Marvin was educated in the Cincinnati Public Schools and graduated from Withrow High School in 2005. Marvin also attended Raymond Walters University for one year for Criminal Law. Even though Marvin departed this life violently, he was a gentle soul. Marvin was the life of a party and he even did some standup comedy locally.
On March 22, 2010, Marvin?s life changed. He became a father to Ma?Riyah Gates, mothered by Amber Wilson. His baby was the love of his life. On that day, Little Marvin became Marv the Man. He accepted the responsibility of being a father and was putting his life in order to provide for his daughter.
Marvin accepted Christ at a young age. He rededicated his life to the Lord at Christ Temple Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Paterson Mingo in 2004. Marvin was involved in the Praise Team and Drama Club at the church. As a youth, Marvin was involved with programs at the Urban League and The little Red Machine Youth Organization.
Marvin loved his family who will cherish their memories. He leaves to cherish his memo-ries: his daughter, Ma?Riyah Gates; his mother, Althea Reed Myles; his father, Marvin Dillard; two grandmothers, Shirley Cheatham and Barbara Harrison; a brother, Deante Gates; and two sisters, Delisha Reed and Anqunette Phillip (Anthony). Marvin was a big brother to his cousins, Sav?aire and Bianca Reed; two nieces, three nephews, 12 uncles, 10 aunts, seven great aunts, four great uncles and a host of other rela-tives and friends.
