Loretta Jean Godhigh was born on January 23, 1943, daughter of Sally Lee Knight and Abraham Watkins.
Loretta married Stanley Godhigh Sr. on July 24, 1962, and they remained married for 54 years.
Loretta lived a life of service to her family, to her community, and to her church. She was a mom to daughter, Kimberly Rochelle (Godhigh) Reece, married to David Reece; grandchildren, David Jeremiah, Nicole Natalie, Daniel Justin, Rachel Brianna, Devin Jordan, and Derek Michael; sons, Daryn Godhigh (Paris and Prince Walton) and Stanley Godhigh (Tiara and Gregory).
Loretta worked various jobs until becoming a mother full-time. She then began the pursuit of teaching and helping others. She obtained her degree to teach reading and writing through adult education; her father-in-law, Eddie Godhigh, was one of her students.
Loretta moved on to being a teacher’s assistant, working in Cincinnati Public Schools until an unfortunate fall down the stairs resulted in a back injury. She had to retire but it did not stop her love for teaching, and she wanted to help students learn, empowering them with self-worth and showing them love.
Loretta was a teacher at President Drive Church of Christ, working with family and friends under the leadership of Everett and Bonnie Brewer and best friends, Tony and Penny Rocquemore.
Loretta left a legacy of 3 kids, 6 grandkids, 9 great grandkids, 2 ½ great-great grandkids, nieces and nephews. Loretta was the last of the Mohicans on her side of the family. She loved to sing and she loved the Lord. Her faith lives on through her children, her love lives through those that knew her, family and friends; she was a gift to us all.
