Leola Wilcher

Leola Rebecca Wilcher (nee Stewart) was the oldest of four children born to the union of the late Mr. James and Katie Stewart. She was born February 4, 1929, in Taliaferro County, Crawfordville, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her two brothers Willie Otis Stewart (Doc) and Clarence Stewart.

Leola transitioned from her earthly tabernacle to her heavenly home on Saturday, November 29, 2014. She sweetly answered the Master’s call at 4:52 p.m. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. (Psalm 116:15).

She grew up as a child in Hancock County of Sparta, Georgia. She confessed Christ at an early age and united with the Hickory Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E.R. McLendon. She attended Hickory Grove Elementary School and L.S. Ingram High School. She retired from The Oscar Meyer Company with more than 30 years of service.

She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Julian Wilcher in 1949. They moved from Sparta to North Carolina; from there to Chicago, IL where they resided for many years. In 1988 she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and united with the New Life Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E.D. Thompson. Although she never had any children, she has been very instrumental in the up-bringing of many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Leola was a compassionate and giving person who extended a heart of love and a helping hand to anyone in need. She had a vibrant personality and a witty sense of humor that could lift your spirit and brighten the atmosphere. Her home was blessed because of her willingness to welcome you in with open arms.

She leaves to cherish his memory: one sister, Mrs. Minnie Murray (James) of Cinti, OH, four sister-in-laws, Alice Stewart (OH), Lillie Pearl Stewart (GA), Pauline Baker (GA), Josie Gatson (NC); brother-in-law, Ollie Wilcher (IL), special cousin, Charlie Murray (IL), a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
