Jewel was born to Thomas and Albia Penman (nee Alford) on March 20, 1933 in Danville, Kentucky. The family relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio where she graduated from Old Woodward High School in 1951. She was the fourth of six children.
Jewel was an avid reader which enabled her to acquire a wealth of knowledge and she willingly shared that knowledge with others. She could mesmerize you with her story-telling. She loved poetry and her favorite poet was Paul Lawrence Dunbar. ―‘LIAS! ‘Lias! Bless de Lawd! Don‘ you know de day‘s erbroad?‖
She became a dedicated and baptized Jehovah‘s Witness in 1991, where she acquired and loved many sisters and brothers. She was able to minister full-time for four years before her illness caused her to slow down. Her years spent in the ministry brought her so much joy.
She will be missed by many.
