Hattie Irene Barrett was born to the late Thomas and Inez
Prosser, May 13, 1933, in Georgetown, Ohio. She departed this
earth on Wednesday, September 18, 2013.
In her childhood years, she left school in the eighth grade to
work. As a young adult, she met and married the late Oscar Leon
Pharris. To this union were born two children. She was later
united in matrimony to Roosevelt Barrett, Sr. From this union,
two children were born.
Hattie was an entrepreneur of a restaurant in Ripley, Ohio in
her early adult years. As an adult, her employer was Teasdale
Fenton Cleaners (Manager), UC Sororities House (Cook) and
in her senior years, MJ Nursing Registry (Home Aide).
Hattie was a faithful wife, mother and grandma. She loved to
sew, cook, shop and have family gatherings.
In her final years, Hattie became a member of the Spirit of
Christ Church, Inc., under the pastorate of Pastor Paul K. Glenn
and Co-Pastor Marsene Glenn where she served on the Mothers
Board until her health failed.
Mother Barrett was preceded in death by her father, Thomas
Prosser; her mother, Inez Prosser; her brother, Donald Prosser;
husband, Roosevelt Barrett, Sr.; her stepdaughter, Angela
Grayson; her brother-in-law, John Shannon; and her sister-inlaw,
Mattie Prosser.
Hattie was survived by: four children, Theresa Elaine Pharris,
Michael Leon Pharris, Roosevelt (Crystal) Barrett, Jr. and
Andrew (Adrianna) Bryant Barrett; 21 grandchildren, 17 greatgrandchildren
and one great-great-grandchild. Also to treasure
her memory is her brother, Clarence Prosser; four sisters, Shirley
Prosser, Betty Shannon, Donna Prosser and Patricia (Berry)
Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
