EMMA LEE MITCHELL, was born November 10, 1918 in Versailles, Kentucky to the late Luke and Anna Buckner. From this union she was born the second daughter of four children. On August 29, 2013, God commissioned His heavenly host of angels to escort her home. And for that we are grateful.
In 1925, Emma moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. She met the late Henry A. Mitchell at Douglass Elementary school. In 1936, they married and to that union seven children were born. She gave her life to Christ when she joined Carmel Presbyterian Church in 1948 under the pastorate of Rev. B. B. Evans.
Emma was proud of being the matriarch of The Mitchell family. She often would say, “I paid the cost, to be the boss.” For thirty years she worked in domestics for the Gamble family. She enjoyed traveling, watching the Cincinnati Reds and playing cards. She also, had an artistic side and she loved to read. Emma was strong minded and kept a smile on her face. She brought joy to all who knew her.
Emma was preceded in death by her: parents; husband; three siblings, Mary Agnes Jones, Elise Buckner and Elizabeth Thomas; two children, Luke M. Mitchell and Arthur A. Mitchell.
She leaves to cherish her memory: children, Henry Mitchell (Margaret), Claudia Mitchell, Shirley Baker, Ralph Mitchell, Jack Mitchell; and special cousin, Emily T. Spicer; seventeen grandchildren, fifty-four great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
