Effie Christine Thomas was born on August 28, 1953, in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, to Samuel and Auldine Thomas. After the early passing of her parents, Effie was lovingly raised by her elder brother Richard Thomas and his wife Della Thomas.
She attended Montgomery County High School, where she met her lifelong friend Victoria Tribble. In 1972, Effie moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she formed lasting bonds with Melba and Thomas Dowdell—relationships that grew into family.
Effie placed her faith in Christ and became a devoted member of First Baptist Church of College Hill. She was known for her joyful spirit, wise humor, radiant smile, and the ability to bring light and laughter to any room. Despite battling eye, heart, kidney, and liver conditions, Effie remained a beacon of strength and love to all who knew her.
She was the last of eleven siblings and carried their legacy with grace until she completed her journey.
Effie was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Auldine Thomas; sisters Ulamae (Pat) Harris, Auldine (Grace) Dixon, and Frances Wilson; and brothers Thomas Donaldson, Richard, Joseph, James, Alford, William, and Patric Thomas.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Henry Thomas; her children Nigel (Julie), Monoleto, and Christal Thomas; and her bonus children Tara Thomas and Doscha Evens.
Effie’s legacy continues through her grandchildren: Ladevan, Kennedi, Jahrelle, Ahyma, Monoleto Jr., Monoleto III, Mylisha, Braydon, Orlando, Alaija, Jolon, Aushaina, and Anaiya; and bonus grandchildren: Dominic, Tyree, Jontez, Geneva, and Mariah.
She also leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren, nieces Kim, Robin, Doreen, Sheila, Belinda, and Tracie; nephew Raymond; and a host of extended family and cherished friends. A special acknowledgment is given to Tamirah Brown for her love and support.
Effie’s life was a testament to faith, friendship, and family. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.
