Dorothy Mae Ewing was born March 22, 1925, to the late Albert and Esteen Ewing in Addyston, OH. She was the third oldest of six siblings. Her oldest brother Charles gave her the befitting nickname “Doll” because she reminded him of a beautiful babydoll. She attended Addyston Baptist church where she sang in the choir, was active in Sunday School and a member of the Pastor’s Aid Group. In 1943, her family moved to Cincinnati, OH. Dorothy was a dedicated caretaker to her father, nieces, and nephews.
Her professional life involved being a domestic worker and providing childcare.
Dorothy was a very poised and practical woman who firmly believed in minding and handling her own business which she did exceptionally well. She continued her service as a member of the Evening Stars and the Pastor’s Aid Group, where she started in ministry early on in her life. To no surprise, Aunt Dorothy’s favorite genre of music was gospel. Her favorite song was “Precious Lord” by her favorite singer Mahalia Jackson.
A few of Aunt Dorothy’s hobbies include crocheting, reading, playing bingo, and watching late night television. New York City was the best place she’d visited. She always enjoyed a good meal: chicken, greens, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, cornbread, cheesecake and a Coca-Cola to be specific. More than a good meal she loved taking in The Daily Bread from the word of God. She was a dedicated member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Walnut Hills and their most senior member where she was recently honored. In an interview when asked what her recommendations for living a long life are she assertively replied: “Trust in the Lord and mind one’s own business. I don’t get in to anybody’s business, and I don’t let them in mine.”
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory: beloved nieces Lenora, Doretha, Veronica “Tootie”, Denise and “Tiny”; nephews Tony (Brenda “Dee”), Brian, great nieces Adriane “Nicki”, Stephanie, Theresa, Annika, Asia, Nichelle; great nephews Kevin, Carlos, Corey/David, Daniel (Dior); loving and dedicated church family of Morning Star Baptist Church – Pastor Jerome Clay, Reggie Lovette whom she affectionately referred to as “my son” and his wife, Beatrice, Anzilia and James Murray and a host of other great nephews, great nieces, relatives and friends.
