First Lady Delores J. Brown, better known as “Loie,
Aunt Loie, Lois, Momma, Grandma, Granny” and also
known by her special friend as “Kitten”, was born August
3, 1932 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the third born to the union of
the late Bert and Alice Martin. She departed this life
Sunday, August 25, 2013 at 1:26 p.m.
Being a strong woman of faith, in her final hours she
sang the song, “Walk With Me Lord” while being surrounded
by her loving family.
First Lady Brown was employed with the L.P. Cavett
Family and after 25 years of service, retired with the
Kanter Family. Soon after graduating from Bloom High
School, she united in marriage to the late Pastor George E.
Brown, Sr. To this union was born eight wonderful
children: George E. Brown, Jr., Sheila J. Brown, Dr. Sharon
A. Watkins (Frank), Diane M. Wilson (Emanuel), Michael
Brown, Sr. (Vickie), Versailles L. Brown (Ken), Angela R.
Parks (Kenny) and Robin G. Brown. She was blessed with
43 beloved grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and eight
great-great-grandchildren.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and
Savior at the age of 12. Later, she joined Peace Baptist
Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Joseph
Hudson. She became the First Lady of Whole Life Church
of Jesus Christ, founded by her late husband, Pastor
George E. Brown, Sr. in August, 1986. First Lady Brown
was also affiliated with the Social Society of the Eastern
Star and many other community organizations.
She leaves to mourn: eight children, three son-in-laws,
one daughter-in-law, 43 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren
and eight great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Francine
Bosley, Myrtle Tucker and Beverly Reeves; and a host of
other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by
three brothers and two sisters, James Martin, Alfred
Martin, Huey Martin, Edith Baxter and Effie Brown.
First Lady Brown was well loved by her family and all
those she encountered. She never met a stranger. She
showed love and compassion to everyone. Her jovial spirit
made a smile come to your face.
First Lady Delores J. Brown was a woman of God with
strong faith and wisdom. She will forever be loved and
greatly missed.
