Cora Terrell was born on August 30, 1911 in Cuba,
Alabama to Oliver Gowdy and Leona Poole. The first
born of 12 children to this union.
She attended school as far as the 8th grade. When she
reached the age of 18 years, she left home and came to
Cincinnati, Ohio to find work. There were two children
born, the late Willa Mae Miller (deceased) and Ruby
Davis. Years later, she married John W. Terrell and to this
union, two more daughters were born, Geraldine Kelly
and Gloria Mosley.
She joined Antioch Baptist Church in 1940 under the
leadership of the late Rev. Williams and after his death, the
Rev. Francis E. Lesley. She loved her church and was
faithfully present in Morning Worship, Sunday School,
Evening Worship, BTU, Prayer Meeting and singing in the
Gospel Chorus for years. She also was an entrepreneur
where she started a babysitting business in her own home.
The start was from the members that had children in
Antioch and by word of mouth, it grew to managing 25
children throughout the years. She also networked in the
medical field where she received work from medical
doctors where she would wash and iron their gowns to
make a profit.
She leaves to mourn: two sisters, Ethel Gibbs and Julia
Hare; three daughters, Ruby Davis, Geraldine Kelly and
Gloria Mosley; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and
friends.
