Aurelia Christine (Wilder) Tidwell was born on December
25, 1926, the sixth child of the union of Lessie (Clark)
Wilder Johnson and B.W. (Preach) Wilder in Carrollton,
Georgia.
Christine was called on by her father to do many taskschores
around the house. She was a talented child, very skillful
in all her duties. She could sew and make clothes and was very
talented in doing hair. Christine was also excellent when it
came to cooking.
She met and married Floyd Tidwell in Carrollton, Georgia
in 1945, then moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. To this union were
born 11 children (five boys and six girls): James Floyd
Tidwell, Catherine Edmondson, Barbara Coleman (Terry),
Cassandra Anderson, Cecil Tidwell, Tyrone Tidwell, Octavia
Tidwell, Celestine Tidwell-Griffin, Paula Jean Tidwell-Steele
(deceased), Gregory Allen Tidwell and Victor Ray Tidwell
(deceased).
From 1946 to 1963, Christine raised her family. She then
set out to have a working career in 1964. She landed her first
job at Frank Chan Laundry in downtown Cincinnati. She
worked there until 1968. Christine was very ambitious, so she
moved to Stouffer Hotel (downtown), where she worked in
the Laundry Department. After eight years, she was promoted
to manager over the Laundry Department and retired in 1989.
After a year of retirement, she set out to work again.
Remember, we said Christine was very ambitious about her
life. She continued to work for five years, until our father took
sick. Christine stopped working to take care of our father
until his death in November of 2002. From 2002, until January
6, 2013 at 10:45 a.m. when Christine departed this wonderful
life, she lived.
Christine was loved and will be missed by family and friends.
Christine has 27 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and 30
great-great-grandchildren. She leaves to mourn her passing: two
siblings, Louise Beasley of Dayton, Ohio and Vera McCoy of
Carrollton, Georgia; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In closing, we would like to also say, Christine Wilder
Tidwell could dance.
