A precious life ended July 11, 2013 when
Betty Jean Barksdale was taken from us.
We feel she is at rest with our Heavenly
Father. Betty now has fulfilled her purpose here
on earth, and her family, though we may weep,
will rejoice with her and thank our Heavenly
Father for the life she lived among us, and for
taking her to the Land of Glory.
Betty was the sixth child born to the late Joe
and Gussie Rainey of Cincinnati, Ohio. Betty
attended Cincinnati Public School. She worked
a long time with Ramada Inn Hotel until her
health started to fail.
She met her soulmate in 1962 and married
Thomas (deceased) on May 16, 1964. To this
union, five children were born. There’s not
enough words to explain how Betty powerfully
touched the lives of others. She was a great wife,
mother and provider, and most of all, Mama
Betty to everyone.
She leaves to cherish her memories: sons,
Melvin (Tereasa) Barksdale, Michael (Nicole)
Barksdale, Marcus and Marlon Barksdale; daughter,
Melanie (Johnnie) Pugh, all of Cincinnati,
Ohio; seven siblings (three who have preceded
her in death, David and Howard Rainey and
Emma Jean Tripplet), Elizabeth Rainey, Willamae
(Paul) Murrell, Katherine Rainey and Joseph (Zorra) Rainey; brother-in-law, Bobby Barksdale
of Tompkinsville, Kentucky; two sisters-in-law,
Jessie Rainey and Peggy Barksdale; one aunt, Liz
Williams; 11 grandchildren, Julian, Elaysha,
Marlon, Michelle, Monica, Monique, Lil Marcus,
Myia, Mikkhi, Mario and Malaysia; four greatgrandchildren;
and a host of other family and
friends.
