


Bertha Mae (Watkins) Stokes was born on August 20,
1935 in Athens, Alabama to the late Carrie (Watkins)
Brown and Robert Watkins. She was preceded in death by
two brothers, LC Watkins and JD Watkins and grandson,
Santino M. Watson.
Bertha accepted Christ at an early age.
Bertha went to Withrow High School and later attended
Nursing School. She changed her career path working and
retiring from The Keebler Company.
Bertha enjoyed shopping and traveling. She was blessed
with a gift for singing. She sang gospel and enjoyed listening
to quartet singing. Bertha sang solo all over the
Greater Cincinnati area, singing in small groups, in choirs
and was Choir Director for several churches.
Bertha moved her membership to First Baptist of
Kennedy Heights where she was Vice President of the
Missionary for several years. She enjoyed working with
the Missionary, and later became a devotional leader for
the Missionary.
Bertha leaves to cherish her memory: her husband,
Curtis Stokes; her brother, Willie James (Mabel) Watkins
of Louisville, Kentucky; her daughters, Pamela (Larry)
Hummond and Linda D. Duncan; her sons, Robert
Duncan, Jr., Dwight (Carla) Duncan and Ricky Duncan;
seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a
host of relatives and many friends.
