


Bereket was born on May 16, 1971 to his late father, Haile Sertzu and his beloved mother, Tsigeweini Haile in Asmara, Eritrea. When Bereket reached school age, he enrolled in Acria Christian Elementary School, then Red Sea High School. After graduating high school, he enrolled in Awash Agriculture College. He later on returned back to Eritrea, served his country for 4 years, during the first round national service.
When he was young, Bereket served St. Gebriel Orthodox Church as an Altar Boy for 8 years. He was also active at St. Gebriel Orthodox Church in Louisville, KY until recently.
In October 1996, Bereket moved to the United States. He started working two jobs and started living the Ameri-can dream. His last employment was at Kentuckian Care.
Bereket loved playing and watching soccer. He started playing soccer when he was 5 years old. Between national service and work, he also played professional soccer.
Bereket was a very generous, passionate and fun loving person; he went out of his way to help others. Bereket loved children and animals. He loved his nieces and nephews. He talked about them and carried their pictures in his wallet wherever he went.
Bereket passed away peacefully on April 2, 2013 after a long illness.
Bereket leaves behind to cherish his memory: his beloved mother, Tsigeweini, his 13 brothers and sisters and 26 nieces and nephews.
Today, although the family of Bereket is profoundly saddened by his death, he has left his family much love and legacy for which he will be remembered forever.
