Bang Van Phan, 83, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on August 16, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Born in Huế, Vietnam, Bang graduated from the Vietnamese National Military Academy and served as an officer in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Vietnam. He rose to the rank of Major.
After leaving the military, Bang entered public service and was elected to the Provincial Council of Thừa Thiên–Huế. Following the fall of South Vietnam in 1975, he was sent to a re-education camp, where he remained for twelve years.
He later came to the United States with his family through the Humanitarian Operation program, beginning a new chapter centered on family and building a better future for the generations that followed.
Bang is survived by his wife, Mai Thi Nguyen; his six children, Tam Phan and his wife, My Le; Nhi Phan and her husband, Hai Tran; Van Phan and her husband, Hoang Pham; Tram Phan and her husband, Vu Truong; Loan Phan and her husband, Thanh Luong; and Thach Phan and his wife, Leslie Phan; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a younger sister in Vietnam; and a younger brother in the United States. He was preceded in death by one grandchild.
He will be remembered for his courage, resilience, sacrifice, and above all, his deep love and devotion to his family.
