Richard Alan Stone

Richard Alan “Rick” Stone, was born on January 8, 1963, in Springfield,OH to the late William Kelly Stone Sr. and Betty (Edwards) Stone. He unexpectedly departed from this Earth peacefully in his home on September 14, 2026.

Life and service

Rick graduated from Springfield North High School in 1981. After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Air Force for more than ten years. For the past thirteen years, he has built a successful career with Western & Southern Financial Group as a Talent Acquisition Specialist including leading their Life’s Military Program.

Memories and legacy

Rick—affectionately known as Slick Rick—will be remembered for a lifetime of stories and adventures. His memories included family bike rides through Springfield,OH, bullfrog hunting with Uncle Buck, helping Grandpa Edwards on the farm, and Boy Scout outings with Tecumseh Council Troop 134 at Broaddus Chapel United Methodist Church. He cherished camping trips to Lake Cowan and John Bryan State Park in the family’s Pleasure Mate popup camper, his time stationed at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey, friendly Air Force–Army rivalry with his brothers, fishing, football Sundays, and watching his sons grow into men. Rick enjoyed sports; especially collecting cards and attending the Cincinnati Reds games with his sons. Rick loved fishing with his brothers and sons and got great pleasure teaching the next generation the enjoyment it brings. In recent years, he especially loved taking his youngest son Luis for walks to the park.

Rick carried with him the cosmic philosophies of Parliament Funkadelic: free your mind so your soul can follow; we are all part of the same continuous groove; and no matter the obstacles, keep riding toward the Mothership. He shared that humor, wisdom, and loving energy with everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.

Family

In 1984, Richard united in marriage with Edna Mae Graves, and to that union was born two of the greatest joys of his life – Richard Alan Stone, Jr. and Charles William Stone. Although the union ended, they maintained a warm friendship and a lifelong devotion to the family they built together. Later in life, Richard found love again with his present life partner, Luisa Lauglaug, and was blessed with another son, Luis Richard Stone, bringing great joy to his final years. Rick also leaves behind to cherish his precious mother, Betty Jean Stone; his brothers, William Kelly Stone, Jr., John (Nicolle) Stone, and Guy (Dalziel) Stone; his sisters, Mary Stone and Hazel (Mark) Derriso; his grandchildren, Laniyah, Charles, Jada, and Bella; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, William Kelly Stone, Sr. He leaves behind a legacy of inspiration and love that will forever reside in our hearts.
