Melvin Green Sr. was born March 28, 1959, in Hamilton, Ohio to the late Raymond Green Sr. and Modell McGuire Green. Melvin was the youngest of eight children. He was educated in the Hamilton City Schools.
Melvin found the love of his life and married Lori Schooler in 1983. Together they created warmth in Melvin’s childhood home and raised their three sons there.
Melvin lived a full and purposeful life. He believed in working hard, standing firm in his beliefs, and providing for his family. A man of integrity, his “yes” meant yes and “no” meant no. He was known for his dependability. When faced with challenges, he regrouped, persevered, and came back stronger. His life was guided by love and integrity. He was discreet and lived to do right by everyone. His desire was to be an example to his children showing hard work, love, and time together.
Melvin was a union rep for S.O.S. Steel early in his career. He later drove a semi-truck for Heartland Express. While there, he loved opportunities when he could take a family member along for on the work road for company and fun conversation. Short term jobs included pipe fitting and owning his own business hauling gravel for a local company and home tasks for people he knew.
Melvin was a faithful member of The Masonic Toussaint Lodge No. 19 Serving as Grand Master for a period of time.
Family and friends can witness he loved to joke and laugh. He engaged in lively discussions and would talk about anything, History being one his favorite subjects. He loved to play music on his keyboard and on his guitar. He was a CB Radio and Ham Radio enthusiast and loved contact with people around the world.
From his sons they can attest “Dad loved his family in his own way. He made sure that we grew up to be his idea of a man. Dad played a key role in the development of each son’s interests from how washing machines work, trucks, electricity and power systems, and more
No longer with us in this life, may his values continue to inspire and uplift us for generations to come.
A stalwart wall stands. Flexible yet unyielding. The granite stone shines.
