Bennett Nathan Johnson AKA “Buddy” AKA “BJ” was born on September 15, 1934, to the late Eva Mae (Potter) Johnosn and the late Bennett Wise Johnson. Buddy was the eldest sibling in his family, brother to Helen and Reginald, who preceded Buddy in death.
Buddy attended Withrow High School where he graduated on June 10, 1952. Shortly after graduation, Buddy went into the military. He joined the Airforce on March 30, 1953, working in supplies. During his time in the Airforce Buddy did a tour in Puerto Rico. After 4 years in the Airforce, he was discharged on March 19, 1957, and went on to work for the V.A. Hospital Medical Center where he worked as an Orderly.
On September 4, 1957, Buddy married Catherine (Poochie) Murray and during this union they had 4 children together: Bennett Johnson Jr., the late Charlene Johnson, Darryl Lee Johnson, and Cheryl Ann (Johnson) Wells.
BJ, as his friends liked to call him, was a caring, devoted husband, a great dad, a great provider for his family, and a wonderful friend. BJ was a no non-sense kind of person. Always telling it like it is, whether you wanted to hear it or not. He was real with others, talking about sports, the weather, or world issues. He would never sugar coat things. He was always in the know. REALITY!!!
BJ loved dancing, listening to music, and he loved making money. He loved spending time with family and friends when he could. BJ loved working and the job that he did to help people. He was very knowledgeable about the medical field. He seen a lot over time. BJ also loved sports! His favorite sport was baseball. He loved the Cincinnati Reds.
On September 29, 1986, Bennett’s wife, the love of his life passed away. He honored her wishes to take care of their 4 children and from that day forward, BJ did exactly that. BJ went on to work at the V.A. Medical Center where he retired, giving them 45 years of service. He became ill over the past few years, but that never stopped him from providing for his family. He’d put them first over himself.
“BJ” aka “Buddy” leaves to cherish his memory: his eldest son, Bennett Johnson Jr., youngest son, Darryl Lee Johnson, youngest daughter, Cheryl Ann Wells, son-in-law Marcus Wells, his grandkids Deron Cheatham, Darrelle Cheatham, Devonte Johnson and Mya Wells, his grandkids, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and his devoted longtime friend, Mr. Brown aka “Sweetie Pie”.

My dad I will truly miss you!!!! 🥰 ! You were the first man that showed me love when I came into this world. You taught me a lot of things. You were always there for us even after your wife (my mother) passed away and I know that was hard for you to loose your wife and still move on with life taking care of us.
