Christine was born on December 31, 1943, in Cincinnati Ohio, to James Otis Tyus and Lucille Milton Tyus. She attended kindergarten at Dyer Elementary School. At the age of six, Christine suffered a pediatric illness that impacted her cognitive development. She remained at home under the care of her parents and aunt, Corene Coker. Her brothers, Sonny and Charlie, and her Uncle Milt made plenty of trips to Gallipolis, Ohio, before she gained her independence and employment opportunities with Ohio Valley Residential Services. Then, she started working at the E. Roger Jackson Adult Center on Red Bank Road. She was currently residing at Strifler House in Maderia. Christine received her angelic wings, and entered into enteral rest at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash, Ohio on the evening of Monday, August 24, 2015.
Christine had an infectious smile and a laugh that would light up a room. She was featured in marketing commercials and billboards for MRDD and the Jackson Adult Center. Christine loved to dress. The family would often see Christine out at the grocery and retail stores with her Ohio Valley Residen- tial family. Tinne had a seasonal outfit and broach for every occasion. She was always in the holiday spirit. She was very meticulous with her belong- ings; everything had to be in its specific “place”. She would always know if you had even slightly opened a door or a drawer to her belongings. She kept a room filled with her favorite things: stuffed animals, dolls and photo- graphs. Her favorite photo was one of her sister, Bettie with First Lady Michelle Obama.
Christine spent many weekends with her sister, Shirley. Shirley always stated that when Christine comes to visit, she packs like a queen. She brings at least three luggage’s just for the weekend. She enjoyed celebrating the Thanks- giving holiday at the home of her sister-in-law, Virginia in College Hill. There are so many memories of Christine being with the family; especially the Christmas holidays on Stanton Avenue. Tinne loved a big ole cup of ice with Pepsi Cola and a straw. She was one happy camper with her cup in hand! Her nieces, Tammi and Punkin recall how energetic she was. Tinne could get up and out of their SUV’s and vans better than them.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Tyus (1993); mother, Lucille Tyus (2001); brothers, Charles Tyus (2006) and Warren Tyus (2013); and sis- ter, Thelma Wilson (2015).
Her fond memories will live on in the lives of her siblings, Dorothy Richard- son, Henry Tyus (Ruth), Lynwood Jerome Tyus, Shirley Tyus Phelps and Bettie Tyus Durant (Willie); one uncle and aunt, Deacon Jesse Tyus and Earlene Furr; and a host of other relatives, her extended family at the Strifler House and friends.
Our family would like to give a very special thank you to: APSI, Ohio Valley Residential Services, Jackson Adult Center, Hamilton County MRDD, Strifler House and Hospice of Cincinnati. And a heartfelt thank you to: Yolonda Hill, her nephew, Larry Turner and Pastor K.Z. Smith and the Corinthian Baptist Church. We will forever be grateful for your dedication, support, love and advocacy for Christine.
