Jesse Raymond O’Conner was born to the union of Anna Louise McCoy and Alfred Raymond Conner, he was born April 21, 1921 in Cynthiana, Kentucky. Jesse was called home to be with the Lord on May 21, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Marie; his brother; John Conner, his sons, Jesse Jr. and Carlton Clark; daughter, Brenda Lopez Delgado; and grandsons, Lucian Garr and Timothy O’Conner.
Jesse Sr. and Beulah Marie Clark were married on December 25, 1941. Jesse had to attend church if he wanted to court Beulah for she had accepted Christ at a early age. Jesse fathered and raised 10 children during their 64 years of marriage. He was affectionately known as “Snooks”.
Jesse Sr. was inducted into the Army Jan.1, 1943 in Evansville, Indiana during World War II. He served in Normandy, Northern France, the European Theatre (to include Northern African Middle East) during the years of Second World War. He received the Good Conduct Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, WWII Victory Medal, Honorable Discharge Lapel Button WWII, Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar. He was discharged as a Corporal in 1946.
After military, Jesse and Beulah move to Lincoln Heights, Ohio where he took on multiple jobs and attended Chase College where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and he had secured a job at General Electric Aerospace Plant as a Supervisor and Buyer where he later retired after 30+ years of service.
Jesse and Beulah joined the Lincoln Heights Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. R.D. Wess. Jesse served as Trustee and then Deacon under Rev. B.W. Smith.
Jesse Sr. was a person who embraced life. During his younger years, he was involved in many community organizations.
Jesse managed the Z-Bars Baseball Team which won the Southeastern Championship Double A Baseball League in 1953. He also was President of the Fire Department Auxiliary which he helped organize, and also as Chief of Supply of the Civil Defense Organization in Lincoln Heights. Jesse spent much of his time working with teenagers in his community and taking part in other activities.
In 1956, Jesse and Beulah moved to Woodlawn where he was active in the planning and zoning of what is now called the other side of Woodlawn. Jesse served as Councilman for Woodlawn for many years. Jesse retired as Councilman and was given a Resolution of Com-mendation in order to go into the Ministry on January 8, 1974.
Jesse studied at Temple Bible College and Cincinnati Bible College to receive his Degree in Theology. He was given his Certificate of License on February 28, 1973. On March 17, 1974, Jesse was given his Ordination Certificate by the Lincoln Heights Baptist Church, and on October 10, 1975, he received his Certificate to perform Marriages. Jesse was in the Ohio Baptist General Convention, Western Union Baptist District Association and other organizations. He pastored a church in Mechanicsburg, Ohio; Philippian Missionary Baptist Church in Cincinnati, after serving as Pastor for over 22 years; and he was Interim for First Antioch Baptist Church in Cincinnati. Jesse has kept the faith and finished his course trusting and believing in the Lord.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory: Cheryl O’Conner Watson, Jacquelyn O’Conner Hoyles, Jamie O’Conner (Helen), Cathy O’Conner Walker, Corliss O’Conner (Sonny), Charlotte O’Conner McConnell and Jason O’Conner; 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grand-children, two great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
