Katherine Barner, affectionately known as “Kat”, was born on May 7, 1936 in Greenville, Alabama. On Wednesday July 31, 2019 she was carried by an angel to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Kat was born to the late Gerturde Matthews and Willie Parmer. She was one of seven children.
In 1952, Katherine was untied in matrimony to Young Barner Sr. Over the 49 years marriage this union produced two daughters and four sons.
Katherine accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at St. Luke A.M.E. Zion in Pigeon Creek, Alabama. In 1950 she relocated to Cincinnati, OH and continued her devotion to Christ when she joined St Paul A.M.E. in 1967. She was a devoted member who participated on the Stewardess board ,hospitality committee and willing workers club. She worked for the Cincinnati board of education for over 30 years as a lunchroom aide and retired in 1999.
In 1967 Katherine moved to Mt. Auburn where she resided until her departure. There she enjoyed sitting on the front porch enjoying her beloved neighborhood. Kat never met a stranger because she en-joyed talking to any and every one as they walked by.
She enjoyed traveling and collecting mag-nets from her adventures, going to the casino, shopping, and cooking. Most importantly, she loved spending time with family and friends.
Over the course of the last few years Katherine was cared for by her loving and devoted son Kenneth Barner. Katherine was a strong WOMAN, she battled and overcame cancer twice. She lost her most recent battle but won the war and has now departed earth as a true Hero.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother Willie Nix, sister Delores Woodtor , daughter Patricia Ann Barrow, and granddaughter Sheney Hayes and great granddaughter Laketa Acoff.
Kat leaves to cherish her memory five children; Young Barner, Jr., Anthony Barner (Deborah), Kenneth Barner, Steven Barner (Karman), Tracy Barner Fields ( David). Son in Law Anthony Barrow Sr., and God son Charles Alexander. One brother James Otis Parmer, three sisters Lidda Pearl Harris (Niagara Falls, NY), Hortense Brice (Chicago, IL), Dr. Twinet Parmer Gordon (Detroit, MI). Special Friend Tomasina Payne, and a host of grandchildren(13), great grandchildren (15), and 1 great-great granddaughter.
