To the Family of Joe Porter. We were so shocked to hear of his passing just yesterday. He was one of our favorite representative back in the day working with hair care products. Although we lost touch over the many years we often spoke about the times spent working here in Louisville. Just an awesome, classy, and humble man.
My family and I thought highly of him. I know he will be missed. Although a little late. You all have our deepest sympathy.
The Whitfield Family
The Andrews family is deeply saddened by the loss of Joe. Our families go back many years and we extend our prayers, love and support
For years my father Welzie Williams "Good Candy" and patriarch "Buddy Porter" shared their smiles and found time to let our families share summer visits in Indianapolis or Cincinnati. Joseph Porter continued to visit Indianapolis during the summer's of his high school years, also during trips when he traveled on beauty supply sales trips and finally to pay his respects during the final home going celebration for my dad. No matter where I moved over the years, he often called and found time to meet up to visit during the years I served as a model when he attended the Bronner Brothers hair products convention in Atlanta. His warm smile and the way he tilted his head to the side is how he is remembered. More importantly, there was always a deeper thought shared which was often followed by us laughing and taking for hours. His laugh was contagious and he always had stories to tell to bring us up to date about the Porter siblings. Joe Porter is sorely missed. The Williams family sends condolences to the Porter family as you feel grief during his final journey home. Time, prayers and patience maybe our solace. There will be days when you either shed tears or smiles when you think of him. It's okay. We will continue to pray for your strength and comfort. Rest assured we were all truly blessed to have him in our lives.

Condolences to the family. Joe and I met in Mt Auburn when we were neighbors. I will always cherish the memories of talking with his grandparents who frequently sat on the steps on Sycamore Hill. The wisdom they imparted to me will not be forgotten. We share cousins--Joe on the father's side and I on the mother's side. Rest in your heavenly home. You are truly missed. Though our time as colleagues was brief, Mr. Porters's impact on me was tremendous. Mr. Porter brought fun and laughter to the work environment, while serving as a mentor to me, as it was my first year as an assistant principal. Mr. Porter would find humor in all kinds of situations. One funny story is when we got word that several of our students decided to skip school and meet up at a restaurant. Not only did Mr. Porter show up to surprise the students, but he also recorded their reactions. Priceless! The loss of Mr. Porter was deeply felt here at Withrow. We extend to the family our thoughts and prayers that you may be comforted in this most difficult time.

Rest my dear friend. I will miss you.Your friend of 58 years. You was always so special to me and my family. Jan Bryant-Gendrew
Heartfelt condolences to the family, Joe, was a very fun person to be around and was a giving person of himself he was family to my family he called them aunt and uncle and they were very fond of him. I can remember back in our Hughes High School days Joe played sports he and Bennie Miles, would always tease me that I could it as much as a football player but were did all that food go for a 4.11 tall 691/2 lb woman, they always called me little sis, it’s so strange that Joe, had been on my mind heavily I would think about when I would see him driving his small dark blue sports car then I went to Hughes Annual looking at pictures of his graduating class-as I got older I would call him Mr. J.P., the man with all the class. Laura, as a devoted wife his friend if you must share tears let them be few, Joe, wouldn’t want you too hurt he’s still your rock that’s why you are so strong today for his siblings, nieces and nephews, let your tears be of all the memories you and he shared together, So Bless, Stay Bless and God Bless this Family, remember God will not put no more on you than you can bear, the sun will be brighter in the morning. JP, you have found your peace no more pain to bear, when God, saw you were tired and you called upon him he heard your plea to give this Earthy world to other’s for you tried to be a friend to many and many you were and all received his education and gain the knowledge he prepared before you, “GO FAR IN LIFE FROM THE EDUCATION MR. J. PORTER, TAUGHT YOU”. I have memories that will live forever of your Beloved Husband, Brother and Sister’s, I can hear Joe, saying I have no regrets I have lived my life so family all is well I am free, God has prepared a place for me.
So sorry for your loss, Mr. Porter was an excellent educator, friend and mentor. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Joe Porter a great educator, community leader and a outstanding classmate of mine.
My sincere condolences to his wife & family. May he rest in peace.
