Nellie Haro was born to Green and Cora Alice Chambers in Clarksdale, Mississippi on June 22, 1952.
Nellie was a true child of the delta. She was the youngest of four sisters. She graduated from Coahoma Agricultural (Aggie) High School in Clarksdale, MS. When she was 18, she followed her sister, Bonnie, to Chicago, IL. After the birth of her oldest son, Alando, she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where she married Arthur Haro and gained a stepson, Greg Jones. From this union, her youngest son, Renardo Haro was born. In 1989, she moved back home to care for her sisters. In the mid-90’s, she returned to Cincinnati with her sister Retha Mae and Renardo and resided there ever since. She worked at manufacturing and hospitality companies to provide for her “babies”. Nellie loved music, especially Luther Vandross and Bobby “Blue” Bland. Christmas and Thanksgiving were her favorite holidays because they revolved around her favorite pastimes: spending time with friends and family and cooking. Over the years, she has been a motherly-figure and caretaker to many. On February 24, 2021, she was called home after a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her three sisters, Retha Mae Dugan, Bernice “Bonnie” (Melvin) Davis, and Evelyn “Ed” (LeRoy) Judd. She is survived by her sons, Alando (Pamela) Chambers and Renardo (Taneka) Haro, her stepson Greg (Martina) Jones, and their father, Arthur Haro, her granddaughter Harmony Haro, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
