Ruby Kendrick (nee Jett), the third child of Margaret and Samuel Jett, was born October 9, 1918. Her early childhood was spent in Kentucky, along with her brother and seven sisters. In the mid 1920’s, the family moved to Indiana and then later, to a farm in Greenville, Ohio.
As a young woman, she visited her Aunt Georgia Paris of Rossmoyne, Ohio. It was here that her aunt and future mother-in-law played matchmaker between her and a young Otto Sherman Kendrick. A resulting marriage took place in 1939 and later resulted in the births of three children. In early 1945, the young family moved to their new home in a new development in Wyoming, Ohio. This would be her home for the next 57 years.
Mrs. Kendrick was active in the P.T.A. of Oak Avenue Elementary School. She joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Lockland, Ohio, and remained a member for over 50 years. She was a founding member of the Wyoming Circle Club and contributed hand-made meticulously crafted dolls for sale at their annual fundraiser. She assisted her church with vacation bible school and delivered Meals on Wheels. Each Spring she and her husband looked forward to raising a garden and for years, she filled her cupboard with home-canned goods. In later years, she continued to garden vegetables and flowers until the rows became too crooked and the harvest too small. The garden had always confirmed her independence and self-sufficiency.
In 1992, she moved to Palm Coast, Florida to be near her daughter and son-in-law.
Mrs. Kendrick was predeceased by her parents, husband and son, Mark Preston. Her spirit continues to live in this world through her son, Paul and daughter, Marilyn (Howard). She was predeceased by sisters, Fannie, Farcie, Viola and Ethel. Left to mourn are: brother, James Samuel Jett (Opal) and sisters, Dorothy Hand, Juanita Payne (Louis) and Roberta Embry; grandchildren, Aaron Wilson (Denise), Kimberly Yvette Nilson (Laif), Vernita Dryer and Mark Kendrick, Jr.; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Mrs. Kendrick died peacefully at sunrise on December 26, 2012.
