Mrs. Roger Mae Waites was born December 20, 1930 in Crawfordsville, Georgia to the union of Roger and Carrie Bell Williams (nee Edwards). Both parents preceded her in death. She was the only child to this union and was named after her father. Many of her family members and friends affectionately called her Mae. As a young girl, she grew up in Georgia before moving with her family to Cincinnati in 1942 to the Lockland area. She was educated in the Cincinnati Public Schools, and later became a cosmetologist by profession and owned and managed her own beauty shop for many years, until her retirement.
Roger Mae confessed her trust and love for the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age, and recommitted herself to Him in her senior years at the Olivet Baptist Church.
She was married twice and had seven children; six of whom she leaves to cherish her beloved memory, Deborah Gaston Gibson (Willie), Linda Gaston Carr (William), Darryl Leonard Gaston (son, preceded her in death), Lisa Waites McQueen, James Waites, Jr., Kenneth Waites and Traci Waites, all of Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the grand-mother of 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She also leaves a life-long, dear friend, Ellen Belcher; and a host of relatives and friends.
