Richard Donald Cox was the third of 11 children born to the union of Charles and Juanita Cox. He was born on September 23, 1942 in Smuteye, Alabama. After an agonizing and courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia, he was called home to be with the Lord on November 12, 2015. Richard, known to his close friends and family as Don, moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1955, where he graduated from Hughes High School. In 1963 Don met his soon-to-be wife of 50 years, Jacqueline Riley, and from this union, his two children Tracy and Michael were born. He also went on to establish a successful career with the U.S. Postal Service, where he proved himself to be a dedicated and exemplary employee, moving up the ladder and retiring as a Maintenance Supervisor after 40 years of service.
Don was a faithful, loving husband and a devoted member of St. Mark Catholic Church of Evanston, Ohio. While there he became an active member of the church choir, the President of the Men’s Society and a member of The Parish Council.
Don enjoyed vacationing and traveling, having many great memorable adventures with his wife and traveling partners William and Thelma Carpenter. Big Don was an avid reader and history buff who was known for throwing fantastic New Year’s Eve Parties and family events. He always stayed connected to his southern roots with his passion for gardening, preserving fruits, and making homemade wines.
Don was a supportive and dedicated father, not only to Tracy and Michael, but a father figure to extended family and those in the community in need of counsel and nurturing.
Don was loved and respected by all. We were blessed to have been a part of the life of such an unforgettable and courageous man, Richard Donald Cox.
