Quentin T. (Q Ball) Smith was born on January 11, 1978, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Charles Lee and Delores Smith. He departed this earthly life for eternal rest on October 29, 2014. Quentin was a Christian in faith and loved the LORD. He accepted Christ at Greater Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Church in 2001.
Quentin’s love for basketball was undeniable, begin- ning his basketball career in little league at the young age of 5. Quentin attended Mt. Healthy High School, where his passion continued to grow to participate in his love for basketball, starting varsity as a freshman. To date, he continues to hold the record for the high- est scoring player in a single game with 42 points. He was at fast pursuit to achieve more success in basket- ball when he accepted a scholarship to Cincinnati State Technical and Community College where he scored over 1000 points and was named an All Ameri- can player. He went on to attend Moorhead Univer- sity and completed his basketball career at Northern Kentucky University as a tournament champion. On and off the court, he was viewed as a humble athlete.
Quentin’s distinctive personality always brought laughter, positivity and charisma into a room. He was compassionate, open-minded and a loyal friend, unafraid to display his appreciation for others. Quentin was often described as a mentor in the neighborhood and respected teacher for the next generation. He was a hard working and creative per- son, which was often displayed through his attempts at entrepreneurship.
More than anything, Quentin was passionate about his family, unquestionably respectful to his parents, and as his Mom would say, a perfect Son. His devo- tion as a father was unparalleled, and he was willing to give anything to see his daughter happy. As Quentin shared the news of his unborn daughter, Layla, you could see the instantaneous joy it brought to his life. Quentin’s parents would describe him as a “Gentle Giant”. Quentin will greatly be missed and his mem- ory will live in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
Quentin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Essie Hines and Charles Hines; uncles, Kelly Hines and James Malvin; and aunts, Marry Frances and Betty Barnett.
In addition to his parents, Charles Lee and Delores Smith, he leaves to cherish his memories: his loving daughters, Chazsady Smith and (unborn) Layla Smith; significant other, Latrice Smith and female best friend, Regina James; seven siblings, Charles Lee Smith, Jr. (Tonya), Charles Lamont Smith (Denita), Joe Rivers, Tawanna Hines (Clarence Pryor), Toni Smith (Timothy), Kimberley Bolton (Charles Dennis) and Tashia Laney (LaDon); grandmother, Dorothy Griffin; grandfather, Charlie Smith; aunts, Lola Hines and Juneanne Hines; uncles, Byron Hines (Debbie), Charles Hines (Carrie), John Hines (Darlene), Eddie Withers and “Uncle Jr.”; nephews, Brandon Rayford, Charles Smith III, LaDon Laney, Jr., Dante Dennis, Davionne Laney, Donyel Dennis, Joshua Smith, Jo Jo Rivers, Jerimiah Smith, Charleston Smith and Cayden Smith; nieces, Ebony Hines, Larissa Hines, Tiara Smith, Talasia Davis, Nina Smith and Tania Smith; great nephews, Martise Rayford, Brandon Rayford, Jr., Jerome Brown, Jesaun Brown, Tremaine Hines and Taylin Dennis; great niece, Brionna Rayford; cousins, Douglas Barnett, Daryl Barnett, Carmen William, Carol Walker, Shaunda Smith, Nikki Smith, Sandra Smith, Kamron Hines, Kristina Hines, Kahia Hines and Kelly Hines, Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
