Polly Landers, born on December 12, 1942, in Carthage, NC, to Willie Clay Dowdy and Mary Brower, both of whom preceded her in death, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.
Polly accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of her church and community throughout her life. She remained actively involved in various organizations, volunteering through her church, the YWCA, and numerous breast cancer fundraisers, where her generous spirit and willingness to serve others were evident. Whether through local outreach or helping those in need, Polly’s love for others was boundless, and she had a heart that was always ready to give.
A woman of great talent, Polly’s cooking was more than just preparing meals—it was a celebration of love and warmth. Her kitchen was where people gathered, and her meals made everyone feel at home. Whether sharing a quiet family dinner or hosting a large family gathering, her food was a source of joy and connection for all who had the privilege to partake.
Polly was joined in marriage to the love of her life, Alto Landers, on July 7, 1972, in Troy, Alabama. Together, they shared many years of happiness and love before Alto’s passing.
She leaves behind her daughter, Joanne Landers; sisters, Annie Mitchell and Glendora Owens; and three stepdaughters, Alma Green, Rosemary Bragg, and Alice Smith. Polly is also survived by a stepson, Willie Fred Jones; two Goddaughters, Annie Joseph and Robin Jackson; as well as a Godson, Michael Baker II. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alto Landers; sister, Tina Foushee; and brothers, Willie Dowdy, Arthur Curtis Dowdy and George Dowdy.
Polly’s legacy of faith, love, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of being part of her life.
