Mrs. Pauline J. Williams was born May 12, 1933 to Carrie Glenn in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Raised by Daniel Harris and Carrie, she would move to Lincoln Heights, OH at a young age. It is here that she would meet the love of her life. In proper orderly fashion, Mr. Arthur Williams, Sr, would ask Mr. Daniel Harris for permission to marry his daughter. They would marry on October 9, 1948, and thus began almost 70 years of holy matrimony.
Pauline J. and Arthur were both baptized into the family of faith at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Mother Williams, as she was often referred to, lived a life wholly devoted to the Lord. One thing for sure, you could say, “She was a praying woman.” She devoted her life to ensuring a stable home life for her eight children in the home, a host of surrogate children outside of the home and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Serving alongside her husband with children, grandchildren and nieces in tow, every house of worship was served faithfully. With a hum in her spirit and deliberate walk of purpose, Unity Missionary Baptist Church, Fifth Christian Church, Tabernacle Baptist Church and City of Promise would speak well of her service and her “hugs”. She embodied the character of a Proverbs 31 woman. “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”
A memory of reading bounces forward as we reflect on her life. Pauline not only read when life gave her time, but she also shared this love with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. The Holy Word of God was never far from her reach nor was it far from her mouth. She was always ready to remind us of what the Lord says.
Preceded in death by the love of her life, she spent the past eight years living a life full of individual and unique relationships. Pauline J. answered the call into her eternal rest surrounded by family.
Pauline is survived by, seven children, Dolores, Arline, Arthur “Butch” Jr., Mark, Sadie, Brenda, and Daniel (Elenora); twenty-eight grandchildren; fifty-five great grandchildren and eight great- great grandchildren.
