Paul Hicks Sr. was born in Rome, Georgia to Alice Fomby and father David Hicks. They then migrated to Lincoln Heights with family with the late Aunt Juliet and Uncle Ralph Wright. Paul was raised with his first cousin William Malone Jr., where he worked with his uncle in his store.
Preceded by his first wife Juanita King, brother-in-law Alfonso (Boogie) King, three sisters-in-law Dorothy Bailey, Helen Bennett, and Mildred Cavalier. Paul is also preceded in death by life-long companion of 30 years, Charlotte Kellogg, who he traveled with all over the world to different countries.
Survived by living sister-in-law Joy Middleton and life-long dear friend Ethel Gantt Scruggs and three children Paul Edward Hicks, Jr. (Jean); Marilyn Crumpton (Clinton); and Tracy Elaine Newsome (Chris); seven grandchildren, oldest and dearest Corie Lonesha Hicks, loving Renee Rose Barner (Darryl), Julian Paul Hicks, late Christopher Gene Hicks, Jason David Hicks, Nicole Laniece Newsome, and youngest and dearest Alliyah Faith Newsome, great granddaughter, Paris Renee Lee, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Paul enjoyed tinkering and taking things apart and put back together. He enjoyed a career as a welder with Messer Construction for 38 years. Paul also had a love for jazz music, dancing, and gardening. He was a former member of the Locks Club.
Paul was always “dressed to the nine” in his expensive suits and leather pant outfits. His granddaughter Corie would say “grand daddy you don’t have to be dressed to the nine to go to the grocery store”.
