Patsy Estes passed away peacefully at age 77 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She is preceded in death by her parents Russell and Marie Clark, brother Donnie Clark, husband Handy Matthews, and stepson Handy Matthews Jr. She is survived by her sister Bert Warren (Doug), son Chuck Estes (Janet), grandson Andrew (Nicole), granddaughter Courtney (Matthew), great granddaughter Kennedy and great grandson Dawson. Stepchildren Rodney (Rene’) Matthews, Michael (Anna) Matthews, step grandchildren Brian (Susan), Michael Jr. (Laura), Loraine, Christiana, Dovontae’, Caleb, and Maya.
She received her primary and secondary education in the Casey County Public School system in Casey County, Kentucky. She received her cosmetology license from Durham Beauty School in Danville, Kentucky. She was a successful hairdresser and small business owner before her career as an Educator. She was also a licensed Realtor and property manager.
She was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati where she earned her Bachelors in Vocational Education and her Masters in School Counseling. She received a Certification in Special Education from Xavier University.
Patsy worked for Cincinnati Public Schools for over 35 years, starting as a vocational education teacher in Cosmetology at Withrow High School and finishing her career as a Visiting Teacher (Social Worker) throughout the district.
She was active in her community and was a member of Carthage Christian Church for over 50 years. She served as a Worthy Matron of Pride of Solomon #42 in the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Red Hatters Association and an active member of the Cincinnati Federation of Teachers for over 35 years. She was philanthropic with numerous organizations and charitable events throughout her life.
She loved sports, especially her beloved Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. She enjoyed music, travel, fashion, and a great shopping trip. What will be missed most of Patsy was her devoted love for her family, friends, and neighbors on Hyde Park Ave., where she called home for 54 years. She was always up for a trip, happy hour, or great party.
Patsy will be laid to rest on August 29, 2025 at Spring Grove Cemetery, Norman Chapel. Visitation at 1:00pm followed by Eastern Star Service at 1:30pm, Funeral Service at 2:00pm, Entombment at 3:00pm
Patsy loved flowers and she loved supporting her local florist.
Her family would like to give special thanks to Rebecca, Jordan, Courtney, Felecia, Amanda, Jennifer, Robert Michael, Deb, Kelly, Chris, Stacy, David, Nyla, and Abby of Queen City Hospice. Also, special thanks to her good friends Kathy Forte and Angie Ferris for their loving care in her final days.
