Norval Melvin Johnson II, affectionately known as “Mel” to his family and “Norton” to some of his closest friends, was born December 31, 1970, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Norval M. Johnson Jr. and Jennifer Louise Bonner- Brown. Mel gained his heavenly wings unexpectedly on November 12, 2024, at his childhood home. He was preceded in death by both of his Parents whom he loved dearly.
Mel found Christ at a young age. He knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior. His parents took him to church frequently and was baptized at College Hill Presbyterian Church.
Mel was raised in College Hill with his older Sister Juanita. He attended his neighborhood elementary school as a child and was accepted into the prestigious Walnut Hills High School for his exceptional GPA and outstanding smarts. Being the intelligent, fun, outgoing, cool guy that dressed exceptionally well, Mel was well known throughout the city for his big heart and infectious laugh. He did his best to spread that love daily, consistently showing up and being there for the people he held in his heart.
Mel was a ‘Jack of all trades’, from car detailing, interior designing, and landscaping. He ultimately fell in love with landscaping as his OCD-style mindset made him keen to design and detail. He was also a dedicated employee of the education system, working at both Cincinnati State Technical College and North College Hill City School.
Mel was best remembered by his children for his big personality, his love of poetry, neo soul music, and always being dressed in the latest Ralph Lauren. He could be found at any given time with his loving family, and dear friends watching sports.
Those honoring his precious memory are daughter, Ashleigh (Pierre) Brooks, son, Alan- Michael (Brayana) Johnson, Eight Grand Children, sister, Juanita (Kevin) Johnson, nephew, Timothy Johnson, niece, Tyler Johnson, His Beloved Aunts and Laskey Cousins, and a host of extended family and friends.
