Marilyn Louise Isabel Scurlock was born on December 7, 1954, in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Dana Jo Randle Isabel and Robert Ellis Isabel.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at McDonald United Methodist Church in Hernando, Mississippi. She later relocated back to Memphis where she attended her family church, Grady Chapel CME located in the Annesdale neighborhood.
Upon graduating from Central High School, she was accepted to the University of Tennessee where she earned a degree in Computer Programming, a field in which few women and even fewer women of color were able to enter. After graduation, she worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority in Knoxville, TN, as a Computer Programmer.
At UT she met her husband, Spencer, and they were married on December 23, 1979, at Grady Chapel. From this union they had three daughters and she and Spencer made their home in Cincinnati, Ohio.
After moving to Cincinnati, she worked for Queen City Metro as a Computer Programmer and then was promoted to Data Processing Manager.
After becoming a mother, she left her position at Queen City Metro. Marilyn’s priority and focus was being a devoted and loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother. She was the most loving and attentive mother. She doted on her young grandson who was a source of endless joy for her. She dedicated her time to home making and caring for her family. She was known for her culinary skills and enjoyed trying and creating new recipes. She loved her hometown of Memphis and enjoyed visiting her extended family as often as possible.
