Marian Brown Gaskins was born on April 10, 1934 in Washington, DC. She was raised in Christian love by George and Eunice Brown of Purcellville, Virginia. She passed on from this life, Saturday, August 15, 2015 under the wonderful care of St. Elizabeth Hospice Center in Edgewood, Kentucky.
She thrived and grew under the loving care and direc-tion of Christian parents, and was united in Christian marriage to Walter Wesley Gaskins on July 23, 1960. She attended grammar and secondary school in Loudon County, Virginia and college at Storer College in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, Virginia State University in Petersburg and Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights. She moved with her family to Covington in 1969, where she was on the board of the Weekday School of Religion and taught third grade at the Sixth District Elementary School for 27 years, retiring in 1997.
She was the consummate preacher’s wife, aiding in tending to the flock and singing in numerous choirs. Because of her love for Christ and talent as a vocalist, she was often asked to perform solo, and could be counted on to make a joyful noise with the crowd favorite, “His Eye is On the Sparrow.” She was a member of various churches in the Northern Kentucky area, with Cornerstone Apos-tolic in Covington serving as her final faith community before dementia no longer permitted her to worship in the House of the Lord.
She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Walter W. Gaskins II, Adrian T. Gaskins and Jason O. Gaskins; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Ford of Marshall, Virginia and Emma Howard of Willisville, Virginia; other friends near and far, and many, many friends.
