Lucius L. Ware, 91, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Lucius lived a life filled with purpose, perseverance, and love. He earned his bachelor’s degree in music from Alabama State University and later a master’s in education from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Lucius spent most of his years in Cincinnati, where he built his career, raised his family, and uplifted his community before retiring in Las Vegas. A lifelong educator, he served as a junior high and high school principal whose leadership, kindness, and quiet strength inspired generations. Under his direction, Princeton Junior High School earned national recognition from the U.S. Department of Education, an honor presented at the White House by Secretary Terrel Bell.
He came of age during the civil rights movement and proudly participated in the Alabama bus boycott, standing firm for justice and equality. A passionate golfer, he scored a hole-in-one on his very first outing and played well into his eighties, often outplaying much younger competitors. Those who knew him best believed that if times had been different, he could have competed professionally. And through it all, he never lost his Alabama pride — always a devoted Crimson Tide fan, forever ready with a spirited “Roll Tide.”
Lucius was preceded in death by his parents, Lucius Sr. and Ethel Ware, and grandchildren Uriah and Mario. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Sylvia Ware; children Ronald (TJ), Reginald (Camellia), Michelle (Charles), Kadesh, and Uriah; grandchildren Ronald Jr., Aja, Amber, Sommer, Jordan, Ramiah, Arielle, Vaysiah, Aden, Jada, Charli, and London; and seven great-grandchildren.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.”
— Matthew 25:23
