Lizzie Bell Hopgood Batchelor was born July 4, 1925 to the late Emma Bell Perkins Hopgood and Hudson Hopgood in Hardeman County, TN. She later moved to Mercer, TN where she met the love of her life, Ben Batchelor. They were married for 53 years. She was a devoted wife and mother. Ben and Lizzie moved to Cincinnati, OH in 1957.
Lizzie joined Southern Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. James E. Milton in December, 1976.
Lizzie had a passion for cooking and entertaining friends and family in her home. You could always come to her home and eat; and then take some home. She made some of the best cakes and pies. She was a Good Samaritan in her neighborhood. Whenever someone was sick, had death in the family, or just in need, she provided food, care and whatever was needed to make them more comfortable. She was very wise, generous, considerate, a good listener, understanding, and always willing to give good and sound advice. She was fun and knew when to be serious. She was always conscientious about her appearance.
Lizzie was preceded in death by her parents, Emma James and Hudson Hopgood; her hus- band, Ben Batchelor; her two sisters, Sally P. Carter (James) and Marie Hopgood; two bro- thers, Roy Hopgood (Barbara) and George Hop- good, (Selma); two daughters, Fannie Hopgood and Virgie Jones; one grandchild, Alesia Jones;
four brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law.
She leaves to cherish her memory: four daugh- ters, Gladys Cooper (Luther) of Denmark, TN, Belinda Walker of Los Angeles, CA, Erlene Edmond and Tennie Batchelor of Cincinnati, OH; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ethel Anthony; and a host of relatives and friends.
